Virtual: Standing up for Inclusive Classrooms

When’s the last time you checked the mirrors and windows in your classroom? “Mirrors” are books where students can see reflections of themselves. This tells them they belong and they are welcome at school. “Windows” are books that allow students to see into the lives and stories of people different from themselves. This prepares them to be members of a free, multicultural society. Most teachers are committed to providing mirrors and windows for all of their students. But a decade of book bans, censorship, and curriculum restriction laws have had a devastating impact on America’s classrooms. The folks from Campaign for Southern Equality will join us for a virtual workshop on June 3 to explain how everyday parents, teachers, and students can get diverse books back in our classrooms using the best tools. Zoom link provided at sign-up.
