Food Insecurity is On The Rise

The current administration is doing everything it can to inflict pain on the citizens of this country. The Republican shutdown and policies are stripping people of their benefits, creating layoffs and job losses, and hurting struggling Americans. Thousands of individuals in our community are already struggling with hunger every day; this attack by the administration is only making things worse.

50501 KC Partners With KCEATS!

50501 Kansas City is proud to announce that we have partnered with the Workers’ Solidarity Fund and their KCEATS! Solidarity Drive. Workers’ Solidarity Fund has partnered with several Kansas City area organizations to set up drop-off locations for donated food and supplies, collect the donated goods, and deliver them to where they need to go!

The KCEATS! Solidarity Drive

KCEATS!, a project of the Workers’ Solidarity Fund, was created to fight back against the forces threatening the security of all our neighbors. When job layoffs roll, and SNAP funding is cut, we are united as a city through our partners in solidarity, standing together as a multi-organizational unit, moving together to meet our needs where they are. The KCEATS! The Solidarity Drive focuses on collecting donated food and supplies through neighborly business partnerships across the Kansas City Metro area, with our volunteers handling collection and distribution. The Workers’ Solidarity Fund’s efforts to establish funds for community aid and operational costs, such as gas and storage of goods, include our ongoing Workers’ Solidarity Fund crowdfunding initiative, as well as planned community events and drives. Please consider supporting our workers and our efforts to support them. New partners are being added to the team every day, paving a connected, collective way through Kansas City for new partnerships in mutual aid, and sounding the alarm that the time is now to come together and stand up for every one of us.

650,000 Americans Will Lose SNAP or EBT Assistance

On November 1st, 42 million families will no longer have SNAP or EBT assistance. That is 100% of those who qualify, including 650,000 Missourians. In the next week, about 30,000 federal employees in the Kansas City area will have gone unpaid for a full 30 days due to the Republican government shutdown, leaving many and their families suffering and lacking essential resources. Our families, schools, and communities will need help shouldering the additional burden of paying all-time-high grocery and housing costs due to insatiable corporate greed. The Workers’ Solidarity Fund is a vision of a city-wide Solidarity Network, plugged into existing community organizations, which are enabled to distribute direct assistance to those most impacted by the modern economic warfare we face daily. All of our workers know the direct impact of a missed paycheck and unstable housing on the communities they serve, because they are the ones showing up every day, helping each other with these problems. We are boldly envisioning a People’s Social Security.

Americans Are Being Hurt

The people who end up being hurt are ordinary, hard-working Americans who chose to serve their communities and their country. It’s nothing short of disgusting that our tax dollars are being withheld, not being appropriated or processed by Congress to fund our services, purposefully harming the 340 million of us that rely on them. If we just try, we can rely on us. If 500,000 people pitched in just $10 per paycheck, there would be enough ongoing support to pay the utility bills, emergency needs, and housing payments for any neighbor who needs that help. Social Security is a promise that we all make to each other that we are going to be there for one another when times are at their worst. We are boldly envisioning a People’s Social Security.
