SUMMARY:Virtual: House Mtg Training
DESCRIPTION:https://parents4mopublicschools.org/trainings/?event=hm-6-3 \nHouse meetings are an opportunity to invite your friends\, family\, and neighbors to participate in a discussion about what is on the line for public schools and our place in the solution now. They are an accessible\, approachable way to get new people involved and to develop new leaders.   \nHouse meetings can be used to build relationships and alignment across any issue — school defense\, state policy\, local developer incentives\, bond work\, ballot fights\, and more. They are tool to help us harness the power of our relationships to build the power we need for public education.

SUMMARY:Virtual: Bystander Intervention to Stop Islamophobic and Xenophobic Harassment
DESCRIPTION:https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ZjXgKrklRmyUecoFnK3mXA#/registration \nThis interactive training will teach you Right To Be’s 5Ds of bystander intervention methodology. We’ll start by talking about the types of disrespect that Muslims and those who are perceived to be Muslim are facing right now — from microaggressions to violence — using a tool we call the “spectrum of disrespect.”  \nYou’ll learn what to look for and the positive impact that bystander intervention has on individuals and communities. We’ll talk through five strategies for intervention: distract\, delegate\, document\, delay\, and direct; and how to prioritize your own safety while intervening. We’ll have time at the end for practice\, and you’ll leave feeling more confident intervening the next time you see Islamophobic and Xenophobic harassment online or in person.

SUMMARY:Virtual: Call With Us: Protect LGBTQ+ Families and Defend True Religious Freedom
DESCRIPTION:https://www.circle.org/events/protect-lgbtq-religious-freedom \nIn partnership with Keshet\, this “Call With Us!” session will focus on S.3279\, the John Lewis Every Child Deserves a Family Act and what’s at stake for religious freedom\, church–state separation\, and civil rights. \nChildren deserve safe\, loving homes—and families deserve to be treated equally under the law. Yet in many states\, taxpayer-funded agencies can refuse to work with LGBTQ+ parents and others\, citing religious beliefs. \nThis legislation would “prohibit discrimination on the basis of religion\, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity)\, and marital status in the administration and provision of child welfare services\,” helping ensure that all qualified families can provide safe\, loving homes. It also raises a fundamental constitutional question: can federally funded systems be used to privilege one religious view of family while excluding others? \nAs noted in a press release from Kirsten Gillibrand\, the bill would prohibit discrimination by federally funded child welfare agencies and improve outcomes for LGBTQ+ youth\, including establishing a National Resource Center and banning harmful practices like conversion therapy. \nWe’ll connect the dots between this legislation and the broader rise of Christian Nationalist-driven policies that seek to redefine “religious liberty” as a license to discriminate. Then we’ll break down what’s at stake for children\, families\, and church–state separation—and help you take action by calling your members of Congress during the program.

SUMMARY:Virtual: Rethinking Volunteerism to Meet Community Needs
DESCRIPTION:https://pflag-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_JdmCkg07TUKwaQFZFmEQ8A#/registration \nIn times of crisis\, communities often turn to mutual aid to meet needs that are not being met by existing systems. For example\, in the LGBTQ+ community\, mutual aid continues to be an integral part in the fight against HIV/AIDS. In this learning session participants will learn about mutual aid and how it differs from traditional charity work. They will also consider best practices for participating in mutual aid networks and things to keep in mind as they participate in this kind of community support. And while we encourage folks to become a part of existing networks\, participants will also be guided through a step-by-step process to create a new mutual aid network\, if it is needed.

SUMMARY:Virtual: Kansas for All Field Training
DESCRIPTION:https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/vr6EWSx0QoqVddgF4_umOA#/registration \nKansas for All is hosting Zoom trainings on field operations like canvassing and phone banking to get ready to hit the ground soon to spread the Vote No message in Lawrence\, Salina\, Emporia\, and Manhattan. The far-right amendment to vote on electable (for sale) judges for Kansas’ Supreme Court is coming up in August. This amendment poses a direct threat to the democratic rights of working-class Kansans who have had rights like abortion access and public school funding protected by our current KS Court. If you’re interested in helping to defeat this far-right attempt at consolidation in our state\, please attend some of our trainings to get involved.
