Yet in many states\, taxpayer-funded agencies can refuse to work with LGBTQ+ parents and others\, citing religious beliefs. \nThis legislation would “prohibit discrimination on the basis of religion\, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity)\, and marital status in the administration and provision of child welfare services\,” helping ensure that all qualified families can provide safe\, loving homes. It also raises a fundamental constitutional question: can federally funded systems be used to privilege one religious view of family while excluding others? \nAs noted in a press release from Kirsten Gillibrand\, the bill would prohibit discrimination by federally funded child welfare agencies and improve outcomes for LGBTQ+ youth\, including establishing a National Resource Center and banning harmful practices like conversion therapy. \nWe’ll connect the dots between this legislation and the broader rise of Christian Nationalist-driven policies that seek to redefine “religious liberty” as a license to discriminate. Then we’ll break down what’s at stake for children\, families\, and church–state separation—and help you take action by calling your members of Congress during the program.

And while we encourage folks to become a part of existing networks\, participants will also be guided through a step-by-step process to create a new mutual aid network\, if it is needed.

Right To Be’s Bystander Intervention to Support Immigrant Communities Training equips participants with the tools to safely and effectively intervene when they witness anti-immigrant hate\, harassment\, or discrimination.  \nUsing Right To Be’s 5Ds of Bystander Intervention methodology—Distract\, Delegate\, Document\, Delay\, and Direct—this interactive training empowers participants to take action while prioritizing safety. Whether it’s witnessing xenophobic comments\, workplace discrimination\, ICE encounters\, or public harassment\, this training provides practical\, real-world strategies to support immigrants facing harm.  \nThrough real-life scenarios\, interactive exercises\, and group discussions\, participants will:  \n\nRecognize the spectrum of anti-immigrant hate and harassment and its impact on communities. \nLearn and practice the 5Ds of bystander intervention in different situations.\nUnderstand how to legally and safely respond to ICE encounters without putting themselves or others at risk. \nGain confidence to stand up against discrimination in their workplaces\, schools\, and public spaces. \nLeave with tools\, resources\, and next steps to continue supporting immigrant rights. \n\nThis training is encouraged for allies\, but everyone is welcome. If you are undocumented or at risk of being targeted by ICE\, we recommend also attending a Know Your Rights training and engaging in safety planning.Together\, we can create a culture of safety\, solidarity\, and dignity for immigrant communities.
