Stutzman\, former District Judge will discuss how the process of appointing Supreme Court Justices currently works and has worked for decades. Our founding fathers set up this country with a system of checks and balances\, and judiciary was never meant to be political. In fact\, it was meant to be the only non-political branch. \nDuring the August primary election\, judicial impartiality will be on the line. Proposed amendment SCR 1611 would make the Supreme Court political and undercut the entire idea of checks and balances. \nThis panel discussion will help participants understand why Electing Supreme Court Justices will not make the court more Democratic. Elections cost money\, way too much for the judicial candidates themselves to afford. Changing to an elected court would involve participation by sources of Big Money who seek to influence the outcomes of the cases in directions advantageous to their interests. (sound familiar?) \nThis a local Indivisible event!
