Expanded Call‑to‑Action for Ordinance 6050 – Calls & Emails Needed ASAP

Thank you to everyone who attended last night’s meeting or called and emailed the Jackson County Legislatures.

Legislators Abarca, Huskey, Anderson, and Peyton are the only members who have publicly voiced their support for Ordinance 6050. We need six affirmative votes to clear the council, yet only four supporters are currently on record. The council consists of nine elected officials,  seven of whom identify as Democrats. The outcome depends on persuading at least two Democratic legislators to join the effort. Because time is of the essence, the next review of Ordinance 6050 is scheduled for Monday, January 26.

Our Job Is Not Done!

We need every voice to speak up daily in support of Jackson County Ordinance 6050, The Renee Nicole Macklin Good Transparency and Accountability Ordinance. If passed, this ordinance would require law enforcement officers operating in Jackson County, Missouri, including federal agents like ICE, to clearly display their faces and badges while performing official duties. In addition, the ordinance also requires agencies to adopt written policies governing any exemptions and to report annually to the County Legislature. The ordinance’s goal is to strengthen transparency, accountability, and public trust in law enforcement interactions.

It is vitally important that this ordinance passes to make sure ICE in our area is identifiable and held accountable for its illegal actions.

We have very limited time to get this passed for Jackson County. Please take a moment today, and each day through Monday, to lend your voice to the chorus of people opposing the occupation of our cities by ICE.

We need everyone to call and email the legislators listed below, to express your support of the ordinance and to DEMAND they stand with the people, not the fascists. Tell them you expect them to vote in favor of the ordinance, that the people are watching, and that the people will remember. There are also talking points listed below if you need a little help! We must make sure they hear the chorus of voices standing up to what is happening in our country.

Talking Points:

AIRR has provided some great talking points in support of the ordinance if you need a little assistance in discussing this issue.

Promotes transparency and accountability: Clear identification of law enforcement officers helps ensure accountability and reinforces public confidence in those exercising authority.

Builds community trust and public safety: When residents know who is enforcing the law, they are more likely to cooperate, report crimes, and seek help, making communities safer for everyone.

Establishes clear and reasonable standards: The ordinance allows for limited exceptions while requiring written policies and reporting, ensuring transparency without interfering with legitimate law enforcement needs.

Protects civil rights and due process: Visible identification helps prevent abuse of authority and ensures residents understand who they are interacting with during enforcement actions.

Honors the legacy of Renee Nicole Macklin Good and lives taken by ICE: This ordinance responds to community concerns and honors Renee Good’s life and many other lives taken by ICE violence. Promoting dignity, accountability, and transparency in law enforcement practices.

We do not have secrete police in this country: Let them know American stands for freedom and democracy, we do not abide secret police in our country. It goes against everything we are supposed to stand for.
